"After shooting, the editor assembles the pieces  footage into a coherent whole. Editing has been one of the few major roles in filmmaking open to women, a fact that is all the more significant because the editor is the person who gives a- film its final shapé, makes it “conform to the will of the producer (during the studio period) or the director (who, in the post-studio period, & overseas the editing process). Many films are saved in “the editing process. Bad acting can be covered up by cutting away from a talentless actor to something or someone else in the scene, with newly recorded lines dubbed in to create a better performance. A film editor needs great dexterity, a sharp eye for detail and rhythm,a prodigious visual memory. In the studio days, the & editor was the one who managed to structure pieces of exposed film into the patterns of the. continuity style. Few directors shot with the precision and economy that  could dictate and control the final shape of their material. Many films are invented during editing. In  American . cinema especially, editors have major  responsibilities for executing the cutting style of the & studio, and some important editorial names are attached & to their respective companies: Viola Lawrence at  Columbia, George Amy at Warner Brothers.

Do you think that bad acting can be covered by editors?

After help, we can use object + infinitive (with or without to).

Can you help me (to) find my ring? (NOT Can you help me finding my ring?)
Thank you so much for helping us (to) repair the car.
Our main task is to help the company (to) become profitable.

Help can also be followed directly by an infinitive without an object.

Would you like to help pack?

If you say that you cannot/can’t help doing something (especially in British English), you mean that you can’t stop yourself, even if you don’t want to do it.

She’s a selfish woman, but somehow you can’t help liking her.
Excuse me – I couldn’t help overhearing what you said.
Sorry I broke the cup – I couldn’t help it.

Can’t help can be followed by but + infinitive (without to), with the same meaning as can’t help verb + ing. This is common in American English.

I can’t help but wonder what I should do next.
